Shitake maitaké reishi is een complementaire combinatie van Aziatische paddenstoelen.

Shiitake (of shitake) bedankt zijn Japanse naam aan shii, één van de boomsoorten (in de buurt van eik) op welke de paddenstoelen groeien in zijn oorspronkelijke staat en take, wat hier "paddenstoelen groeien op" betekent.

Maïtake is een kleine bruine paddenstoel met lamellen, die zich ontwikkelt in trossen van amalgaam op stronken en wortels. Hij heeft de bijnaam "koning der paddenstoelen" en is erg populair in de traditionele Japanse kruidengeneeskunde.

Reishi is een houtachtige schimmel die groeit op ontbindende wilde stammen. Deze wordt al meer dan tweeduizend jaar gebruikt voor medicinale doeleinden. Vroeger noemden men hem "de paddenstoel van onsterfelijkheid". De reishi ondersteunt de natuurlijke afweer van het lichaam.
